Wednesday Wine: 2014 Fefiñanes Albariño

Cold January days remind me of Spain (more on that in a minute), so this week’s Wednesday Wine is an Albariño from the Rias Baixas region.

The 2014 Palacio de Fefiñanes Albariño is a great example of the varietal’s best qualities, with beautiful aromas of apricot and peach. Subtler notes of lemon, baked apple, nutmeg and honey make it a perfect winter white. Enjoy a bottle now with a seafood paella or this soba noodle salad, and save a bottle to enjoy in a couple years. Order three or more bottles and get free Ground shipping with the code SPAIN.

A few years ago I spent some time in Spain around the New Year. I’m not the type of traveler who believes vacations are for wandering aimlessly and going with the flow; I’m the type of traveler who makes laminated itineraries scheduled down to the bathroom breaks. But something about the quaint streets of Spain and the cold, crisp weather encouraged spontaneous detours into the occasional café for a glass of wine and cheese plate. This January I’m making an effort to remember that feeling, and slow down long enough once in a while to sit by my favorite window or curl up on the couch with an outstanding glass of Spanish wine. Spain in WinterAl Hambra, Granada, Spain
